Welcome to Key City Gymnastics!

Gymnastics will be a positive influence to each and every child who participates in our program. The self-esteem of a child is as important to us as the physical learning.

Key City Gymnastics is a parent operated, not-for-profit society. Our purpose is to provide the community with recreational and competitive gymnastic programs. At Key City Gymnastics we consider gymnastics the ultimate foundation for all sports. Gymnastics helps develop body awareness, strength, flexibility, balance, and co-ordination, just to name a few. Key City Gymnastics believes in enhancing confidence, physical and mental development, and providing an overall great experience.

Our aim is to help children develop their self-confidence through mental and physical development. Each child’s participation is very important and we hope that they will feel good about themselves and their involvement. Very few will ever reach the elite level of gymnastics but that does not mean there is not a place for them in the sport. We want to do our best to develop each child to his or her potential and offer a wide range of programs to enhance full potential from each child.

Our Objectives:

  • To provide all members with fair and equitable treatment and opportunities.
  • To provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for children to develop in sports.
  • To promote the growth and development of recreational and competitive gymnastics with quality programming enjoyable for all.
  • Every child's involvement in the sport is important to the club and even though the vast majority will never reach the elite level, the club strives to ensure that each child will develop to his or her potential.

Teaching Principles

  • Unconditional respect:
We offer and insist upon unconditional respect between teachers and students. Humiliating, embarrassing, demeaning or hurtful behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
  • Keep the kids safe:
This is done through vigilance, awareness and safe training methods.
  • Clearly communicate expectations:
Tell the kids what you expect from them.
  • Positive reinforcement:
Focus on things done right rather than things done wrong.
  • Discipline with natural consequences:
The natural (and unpleasant) consequences of a poor decision should form the basis of our discipline, not “punishment”.
  • Be enthusiastic:
It shows you care and inspires others to care.
  • Offer daily challenges:
Going past perceived limitations is the only way to stretch and grow.
  • Offer daily successes:
“Sense of Accomplishment” is one of the most powerful motivators to “try again when the going gets tough”.
  • Perpetual motion:
Kids learn by doing, not by sitting or standing in line.
  • Creativity, variety, fun:
Kids learn best when there is an element of fun built into the training environment.
  • Love, empathy, compassion:
Paraphrased, Dr. M. Scott Peck, in 'The Road Less Traveled', defined love as “effort dedicated toward helping oneself or another person change and grow”. What is teaching and coaching if not that?
